Four Chaplains Ceremony Veterans Park Feb. 3rd @ 3pm

The Immortal Four Chaplains Ceremony at Veterans Park on February 3rd at 3pm

Sunday, Feb. 3 will mark the historic 70th anniversary of the sinking of the United States Army Transport Dorchester and the legendary acts of selflessness of four Army chaplains who were aboard. Four Chaplains Day, as Congress has declared the date, honors the four chaplains who went down with their ship, as they gave their life jackets to other passengers.
Legion posts nationwide are encouraged to commemorate the anniversary each February. This year, our memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 3pm at the Veterans Park in Ocala
The Four Chaplains – sometimes called the Immortal Chaplains – were men from four different religions who sacrificed their lives for men of all faiths. In the 70 years since the incident, Methodist minister George L. Fox, Reformed Church in America minister Clark V. Poling, Roman Catholic priest John P. Washington and Rabbi Alexander B. Goode have been immortalized with commemorative postage stamps, a Congressionally recognized anniversary and numerous re-tellings of their heroics.

Legion Post #27 is moving after 86 years!

American Legion Ocala Post #27 is moving out of the building they constructed in 1933. It is sad to leave our home after 86 years of fantastic memories. Think of all the World War II dances held to boost troop morale and raise funds to wage the war. The American Legion Building was the very first building constructed in Tuscawilla Park, which is just two blocks from Downtown Ocala. While we are sad to leave, we are equally excited about the advantages that the new building will offer. We firmly believe that the advantages outweigh the loss of our old building. Here are the advantages:  PARKING - The City is building a parking lot that will hold approximately 40 to 50 cars, plus an additional 14 near the building for people with disabilities. If that weren't enough, the County Health Department has signed an agreement that allows us to use up to 30 of their parking spots near our building. That gives us the ability to park nearly 100 cars for any of our programs or meeting...

Post 27 Meeting Minutes posted on this BLOG!

Post 27 Meeting Minutes are now posted on this BLOG ... look on the right side for "Meeting Minutes" and select the month you want to read! ... You can review them whenever you would like. If you notice anything that need to be corrected, please let the Adjutant know and he will bring it up at the next meeting for approval. At present, the only minutes that are available on computer are the ones on the list. If I can find the earlier minutes I will scan them and make them available as well. We will be adding a page for old Post photos in the near future. Brian Voge Adjutant
