Four Chaplains Ceremony Veterans Park Feb. 3rd @ 3pm

The Immortal Four Chaplains Ceremony at Veterans Park on February 3rd at 3pm Sunday, Feb. 3 will mark the historic 70th anniversary of the sinking of the United States Army Transport Dorchester and the legendary acts of selflessness of four Army chaplains who were aboard. Four Chaplains Day, as Congress has declared the date, honors the four chaplains who went down with their ship, as they gave their life jackets to other passengers. Legion posts nationwide are encouraged to commemorate the anniversary each February. This year, our memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 3pm at the Veterans Park in Ocala .  The Four Chaplains – sometimes called the Immortal Chaplains – were men from four different religions who sacrificed their lives for men of all faiths. Post 27 leads the District at 120.161% Membership

4 th District Commander Information Bulletin December 20, 2012 Congratulations to Post 27 who leads the District at 120.161%. Well done to Commander Fred Miley and your team for this achievement. Well done Commander Badger Moring and Commander Ray Roby and your membership teams for achieving (110.00% and 101.205% respectively. I thank all District 4 Posts who are making every effort to keep up and move ahead of the goal dates.  As of today, District 4 is in 5th place at 84.86%, that’s 3.92% and behind 1st place District 6th and down from 5th place since the last report period.. The gap to first place climbed a bit so let’s strengthen our resolve to work together a little harder to close the gap. I offered some suggestions in the last Bulletin – please refer to that issue for ways to get new members. The 80% Department of Florida goal is January 4th – not far away. The job gets harder as the percentage increases so we need to get ahead of these goal benchmarks...

Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP)

Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) Congress passed, and the President has signed into law, the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011. Included in this new law is the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP). VRAP offers up to 12 months of training assistance to unemployed Veterans. The VRAP offers 12 months of training assistance to Veterans who: Are at least 35 but no more than 60 years old Are unemployed on the date of application Received an other than dishonorable discharge Are not be eligible for any other VA education benefit program (e.g.: the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Assistance) Are not in receipt of VA compensation due to unemployability Are not enrolled in a federal or state job training program The program is limited to 45,000 participants from July 1, 2012, through September 30, 2012, and 54,000 participants from October 1, 2012, through March 31, 2014.
